Superstition by TrentLarsonphoto Superstition by TrentLarsonphoto
Today there were fluffy clouds galore. I thought it would be the perfect day to go out and finally get a good shot of Superstition Mountain, and have an amazing sunset. By the time I got out there, all but one cloud was gone. I swear, I have the worst luck with sunsets. When they're beautiful, I don't have a camera....when i'm waiting for one, they stink. Maybe some day I'll get lucky.....

Superstition Mountain, Apache Junction, AZ.

Why do you keep using f22? It's bad for sharpness (diffraction!), it's bad for shutter speed, and it reveals all your sensor dust. No real gain. And don't say you needed the DOF: on 18mm and 1,6x crop, you don't need anything more than f/11 to get everything sharp from infinity to less than a meter.

Very nice capture! :sun: I love the sun shining against the landscape. All of my photos from my visit to the Apache Trail didn't turn out too well because of the hazy conditions that particular day.

Thanks! That's too bad about your photos not coming out, but it's definately not an easy place to photograph, but at least you got the chance to come visit the area (which is beautiful).

Thanks! Actually, not technically the park. If you go about half a mile past the entrance there's a road that has a few trails. One is called Joe's crosscut trail (I believe), it goes and connects to one of the trails from the park. I've never actually been into the park, so i'm not entirely sure, but i think it is.

the colors in this are awesome...earlier i saw a huge blanket of clouds over them and was wondering what it would be like taking a photo from the top through the clouds...tried to get a glimpse of the 4 peaks but they were draped in clouds completely. oh and i have the same problem with sunsets thus why i only have a few ha

That would be a really cool picture. Hopefully you get a chance to do that some day. I hiked up to the base of the mountain, and just sat there for a while looking out before i took this. I saw that four peaks was covered for a while, it shows how tall they really are. It's weird how from the
Supes, four peaks looks like three peaks. I don't know if you've ever noticed it, but the two right ones look like they're one. It's nice to know i'm not the only one with sunset issues....hahaha. Thanks again for commenting!

i have so many ideas for photos up in the superstitions that i hope to get soon. i know that at certain angles the four peaks seem to turn into 3 then 2 then 1 but thats if your going around the mountain, never been up there but its on the list too. have you been seeing any bighorn sheep up there?

we didnt go that far into the lake they take you to the north east end of the lake. i guess since it was hot outside they didnt want to go far (even though thats where all the good stuff is)
